Tänak Takes the Crown in a Dusty Acropolis Rally

The 2025 EKO Acropolis Rally has officially come to an end. Although Sunday’s final day didn’t bring any major surprises, there were still a few issues along the way for several crews.

Grégoire Munster, who had finished Day 3 in sixth place overall, was forced to retire in the very first stage of Sunday (SS14) due to mechanical problems. In the same stage, Takamoto Katsuta had a spin but was able to continue without major damage. During SS15, Kalle Rovanperä suffered a puncture on his rear left tyre, which he had to stop and change at 11.2 km. Thierry Neuville, aiming to collect as many Super Sunday points as possible, ran into trouble as well when a broken damper forced him to slow down.

The afternoon loop brought more minor setbacks. In SS16, Neuville’s problems continued—this time needing to stop at 5 km for a full car reset before getting back on the road. The Power Stage (SS17), saw more difficulties. Katsuta had a puncture that needed to be changed mid-stage, and Mārtiņš Sesks finished the run with his front left tyre off the rim. Ott Tänak, leading the Rally, suffered a gearbox issue during this stage and could only focus on finishing rather than pushing for points. He collected just one point from the Power Stage.

Despite Tänak’s issues, he managed to hold on to first place overall with a time of 4:12:20.1. Ogier secured second, finishing 32.8 seconds behind, while Adrien Fourmaux claimed third, 3:09.8 behind. Reigning champion Elfyn Evans ended in fourth, +3:31.1 off the lead, and 2024 champion Thierry Neuville rounded out the top five, +6:09.5 behind Tänak.

Gus Greensmith remained steady and held on to second place, 53.8 seconds behind Solberg. The fight for third saw a change early in the day, as Yohan Rossel overtook Kajetan Kajetanowicz in the first Sunday stage and claimed the final podium spot. Rossel ended 1:09.0 behind Solberg.

Special mention to Miguel Granados and Marc Martí who finished first in the WRC Masters Cup with a time of 4:46:47.3.
